400 Dean Village Apartment

Dean Village apartment is situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Dean Village, a peaceful retreat on the Waters of Leith, only a few minutes’ walk from the west end of Princes Street. Dean Village was the centre of the milling industry from the middle ages and this beautiful apartment is part of Westmills an old mill redeveloped as housing in the 1970s. The area is very picturesque and its peaceful green and leafy ambience belies its proximity to the city centre. There is easy access to the Waters of Leith walk way from the village which leads you along by the river on a scenic walk towards the Royal Botanical gardens and Leith in one direction and to the museum of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery in the other. On a more practical note there is a food shop selling basic food supplies, a very good bakery and a good selection of restaurants and bars all within a short walk of the apartment.

The property is on the second floor of the block which benefits from lift service. The front door to the apartment opens into a long hall way off which all rooms are accessed. The large comfortable living room has three windows all offering stunning views over the waters of Leith, the room is furnished with a big corner sofa providing plenty of seating for 4 people. There is a TV with DVD player and free WiFi for the use of visitors. At the other end of the living room a dining table with 4 chairs provides a good space to work as well as to enjoy a home cooked meal prepared in the apartment. The kitchen is next door and can be screened off with a sliding glass door if required. This room also has a large kitchen table with seating for 4 guests; it is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, toaster and kettle as well as plenty of china, glass, cutlery and cookware.

The light and airy Master bedroom is furnished with a king sized double bed with 2 bedside tables and lamps; it has a large built in wardrobe providing plenty of storage space.

A second good sized twin room with 2 single beds also with bedside tables and lamps has another large built in wardrobe which again provides ample storage space.

The generously proportioned family bathroom has a bath with shower over, basin and WC and plenty of hanging rails for towels etc.

We can accept one well behaved dog in the property at a charge of £35, you can add your dog during the booking process just before you submit payment. The apartment is wheelchair accessible, but the bathroom has not been specially adapted for guests with mobility issues.

In warmer weather guests will appreciate the shared garden overlooking the weir. Access to the garden is through the basement area of the building.

It was like walking into my Granny’s house…this is not a good thing!! The flat was clean but full of an eclectic mix of old furniture with new IKEA style basic cupboards. It could have been a lovely place but didn’t seem to know what it wanted to be.
The floorboards creaked so much I was sure the downstairs neighbours would complain. The space around the bed was impossible to navigate without bashing a toe!
Considering the flat had been empty during all of lockdown you could have spent a wee bit money on it and redecorated and replaced worn furniture, frayed curtains and carpets/rugs.
Shame not to have set it up to be a wee bit special.

Dean Village is our preferred area when in Edinburgh. The area is so charming and quiet, yet only a short walk to Prince’s Street. Dean Path Apartment was the perfect size for three sisters. It was immaculately clean. Loved the heated towel bar. The shower had great water pressure. The beds are firm with spotless linens. The kitchen was well equipped. There is a washer but no dryer, but drying racks are provided. We never heard any noise from neighbors. The Water of Leith flows just outside and makes for a nice walk in either direction.
